Vidyo Rises $22.5 Million in Series D Funding Round
Video has raised a $22.5 million in a Series D round led by QuestMark Partners. The funds will be used to expand sales and marketing activities and help create the next generation video-conferencing equipement.

Frost & Sullivan Honors Vidyo with Global 2011 Product Differentiation Excellence Award for Videoconferencing Infrastructure Systems
Vidyo received the  Frost & Sullivan Global Product Differentiation Excellence Award in Videoconferencing. Frost & Sullivan’s analysis indicates that “Vidyo’s disruptive platform and APIs will expand the market”. I already mentioned that Vidyo is on the right track and as a little example – last week (12-17/09/2011) Vidyo was mentioned over the web almost 273 times, which is more than the term “cisco+telepresence” – 255 times. Patents Wars At The Mobile Space
News of Google purchases of Motorola is probably known to you already.
Google acquired Motorola for 12.5 Billion USD cash deal, most likely as a way to protect Android from the recent ‘Patent Wars’ from Apple and Microsoft.  Reuters supply a nice overview of the patent lawsuits in the following diagram by Reuters. MetroPCS to offer VoLTE in Q1 2012
MetroPCS was among the first companies to offer LTE handset and service in USA in 2010. Yesterday the company’s CEO  announce it’s plan for IMS VoLTE services in USA - availability in Q1 2012 and better LTE coverage. Read more at ConnectedPlanetOnline.

 

Vidyo Landed a big Telemedicine Deal
Vidyo (a long time IMTC member) name seems to be just about everywhere in the last few months. In fact, If one would search their name next to the terms ‘video-conferencing’ or ‘Telepresence’ he might think they are as big as Cisco and Polycom (that alone worth a rematch for my ‘Telepresence Buzz‘ article). This isn’t really a surprise as they provide the basic technology for successful consumer products such as Google’s video chat (and the recent Google’s ‘hangout’ video-conferencing feature in Google+). Recent success is a deal with Ontario Telemedicine Network, a Canadian health service network with over 3000 health care professionals. Read more about it in All Things Digital.

LTE – A Potential Worldwide Mess?
Intomobile.com remind us all a known yet somewhat discouraging fact – LTE networks will use different frequencies throughout Europe, USA, Middle East and Africa. Analysts at Informa are warning against the phenomena. Will 2G-3G-4G roaming be the norm for 2012?

LightSquared: Solved GPS interference issues, Network go as planned
LightSquared, the satellite based wholesale LTE network caused major concern to GPS connectivity in it’s initial tests, causing interference in GPS in up to 22 miles distance from LightSquared cell towers. Recently the company announced it’s solved it’s interference issues by reducing the towers power output by 50% and retune it’s frequencies a bit further away from the GPS channel.
